The 23rd FIFA World Cup, hosted by Canada, Mexico and the United States from 11 June to 19 July 2026.
48 teams are drawn into 12 groups of four. The top two from each group plus the eight best third-placed teams — 32 in total — advance to a straight knockout: Round of 32, Round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals, a third-place play-off and the Final. The group stage runs 11–27 June; the knockouts run from 28 June to the Final on 19 July at MetLife Stadium, New York/New Jersey. The opening match is Mexico v South Africa at Estadio Azteca, Mexico City.
The Trionda (Spanish “tri” + “onda”, three waves) uses four thermally-bonded panels and a connected-ball sensor at 500Hz. Its red, green and blue motif represents the three host nations.
A record total pool of roughly $871 million. Every one of the 48 teams is guaranteed a participation fee, rising with progress, and the champions take home a record sum of around $50 million.
